12 Free C2C Crochet Blanket Patterns

12 Free C2C Crochet Blanket Patterns

Corner-to-corner crochet, or C2C, builds a blanket out of little blocks worked on the diagonal. You increase until the blanket is as wide as you want, then decrease to finish. It is easier than it looks, and once you know it you can make anything from simple stripes to full picture blankets.

Here are 12 free C2C crochet blanket patterns we checked. The first few are great for learning, and the later ones use charts to make pictures like daisies, llamas, hearts and a reindeer.

3. Simple Ombre C2C Baby Blanket

Simple Ombre C2C Baby Blanket free crochet pattern by Erin Toews

This version uses half double crochet C2C blocks, which make a slightly denser fabric. An ombre cake yarn creates the gradient, so there are no color changes at all. It finishes at about 36″ x 48″. One small note: a reader spotted a chain count typo in Rows 1 and 3, and the designer confirmed the fix in the comments.

Which One Should You Make?

  • First C2C ever? Start with #2. Super bulky yarn means you see results in one evening.
  • Want to skip color changes? #3 uses ombre yarn, so it stripes by itself.
  • Ready for your first chart? #8 includes written rows, so you are not stuck reading the graph alone.
  • Want to make your own size? #5 lets you stop whenever the throw is big enough.
  • Planning ahead for the holidays? #10 and #11 are both festive graphghans.

FAQ

Is C2C crochet good for beginners?
Yes. C2C uses only chains, double crochet and slip stitches. The main new skill is how to increase and decrease at the edges. Start with a solid or striped blanket before you try a picture chart, so you can focus on the method first.

How do I change colors in C2C without a mess?
Use a separate small ball or bobbin for each color section, and switch on the last step of the stitch before the new color. Keep the bobbins untangled by turning the blanket the same way each time. Many designers, like Moogly, link free tutorials for this.

How big should a C2C blanket be?
Baby blankets are often 30″ to 36″ square, and throws are usually around 50″ x 60″. With C2C you can decide as you go: keep increasing until it is wide enough, then start decreasing. Check the gauge in your pattern if you are following a chart.

Pick your first chart, wind your bobbins and start building your blanket one block at a time.
